Sunday, June 3 at 6 PM – 9 PM

Vox Populi In continuation with her current project on view at Vox Populi, “Carry Over,” Maddie Hewitt will present a screening of her performance video by accompanying it with an experimental noise live score.

Nearly 30 years after the Exxon Valdez oil spill, Maddie Hewitt creates an artistic interpretation of Phil McCrory’s environmental remediation discovery found in response to the devastating impact to marvel at the way natural human processes can actually help minimize the effects of anthropogenic hazards. The project alludes to the traditional association of women with cleaning, hair as an adornment, and care taking of the body and of our living spaces, using the sound, rhythm, repetition, and intimacy from autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) trigger videos as a soundscape.

Maddie is an interdisciplinary artist who performs electro-acoustic music using everyday objects in combination with amplification in free-form sound performances. The goal is to find expressivity in materials that are often overlooked or neglected and channel their potential into electrified communication. As part of the group exhibit, WE ARE THE FRUITING BODY, currently on view at Vox Populi, audiences are invited to bring their spare hair, which Maddie will collect and donate to Matter of Trust, an ecological nonprofit organization with a mission to link surplus with needs.
