Presented as part of 4th Wall Film/Video Programming
Hosted by Lane Speidel

On Thursday, March 10th at 7pm EST join Vox member Lane Speidel for our first 2022 installment of Show & Tell, Vox’s digital screening series. We will be showing short films from two artists, Stephanie Sutton and Paige Phillips. Their colorful works play within the joy and constraint of embodiment. Join us for a Q&A with the artists following the screening!

The films will be available to view on the Vox Website, along with the filmmaker Q+A for one month following the initial screening.

Show & Tell is presented by Vox Populi’s Black Box Committee as part of our ongoing 4th Wall film/video program dedicated to showcasing new and experimental film/video works by independent, emerging, and early-career artists.

About the Artists

Paige Phillips (she/her) is a choreographer and interdisciplinary artist based in Philadelphia. Her artwork engages most frequently with dance, installation, and video, seeking to blur the line between the sacred and profane. Some venues where her work has been shown include: Műhely Alapítvány (Budapest), National Museum of Singapore, Bangkok Art and Culture Center, Park Gallery (Kathmandu, Nepal), Judson Church through Movement Research (NYC), Microscope Gallery (NYC), Urban Arts Space (Columbus), and Velocity Dance Center (Seattle), along with Philadelphia venues Mascher Space, the CEC, FringeArts’ Scratch Night, High Tide Gallery, and Little Berlin. She has performed nationally and abroad for choreographers and visual artists such as Cyrus Khmabatta, Yael Bartana, and Josiah McElheny. She holds an MFA from The Ohio State University, and has been a member at Mascher Space Cooperative since 2017. She works as a Project Manager at Mural Arts, supporting artists across the city to complete large-scale public artworks, and is a Lecturer at Rowan University.

Stephanie Sutton’s performances for the camera employ conventions of labor and ritual to complicate assumptions of discipline and destabilize virtues of self-control. The subject of several invitational shows, Sutton’s work is recognized for its success in transgressing the limits of the isolated subject and redirecting self-consciousness on to the viewer. Sutton earned her MFA from the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia, and her BFA in studio art from the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University. She is currently living and working near Rock Hill, South Carolina where she is an Assistant Professor of Photography and Time-Based Media at Winthrop University.
