Voice into Sound
with Jane Carver, FISH SONGS, Shaina Kapeluck, 21st Century Band, and Jacob Brunner
Jane Carver_Moon Witch

Voice into Sound
will be an evening of readings and sonic performances curated by Tina Plokarz and Jim Strong in conjunction with the exhibition New Members. Instrumentally, vocally and digitally, audible explorations by Jane Carver (voice+sound), Mel Bentley (voice+movement), Shaina Kapeluck (voice+story), Allen Mozek (word+phone), and Jacob Brunner (voice+poem) will resonate in the Galleries. At the door suggested donation of $6. A herbal cocktail bar and aromatherapy will be offered.

Jane Carver is a sound artist and performer from Philadelphia based in both traditional and experimental methods. Her primary interests are the simultaneity of accumulation and decay in sound, and the relationship of melody and memory. She will perform The Old Dream, a composition for voice and accordion which explores an idea about cellular memory containing the narratives of human evolution and allowing for myth, song and story to persist from generation to generation. The Old Dream reflects upon Greek mythology and the return to ancient stories to align ourselves with the epic. — FISH SONGS is the duo of Philadelphia Poet Mel Bentley and Instrument Builder/ Visual Artist Jim Strong, exploring the boiling over their individual practices into a discreet theater composed of light, movement, improvised sound and dissolving language. Related to Fish Songs, Bentley and Strong will officially release a book with ephemera, documentations, poems and drawings. — Shaina Kapeluck is a collector/interpreter, exploring of traditional folk songs from Scotland, England and the US and performing them a capella to bring storytelling back into voice. — Finally, Allen Mozek (New York) from the 21st Century Band will make us relisten to the sound of technology and Jacob Brunner (Philadelphia) follows chords reaching far back into history interlacing eroticism and religion to transform poetry from voice into sound.
