Ira Eduardovna
Mother
January 3 - 26, 2014

Ira Eduardovna was born in 1980 and raised in Uzbekistan in former USSR until she immigrated to Israel in 1990. She currently lives and works in New York.

Her work reconstructs narratives of autobiographical nature and examines issues of migration and identity in flux through non-linear story telling.

Eduardovna’s video installations examine the border of video and architecture and the influence of architecture on the experience of time and memory. Ira and her family usually perform in her videos. Her work presents the familial structure as a model of the society as a whole. She examines the changes that occur in the family once it’s been displaced to a different society structure, and or once the society structure collapses and visa versa.

Ira’s work has been shown internationally in Israel, Europe and USA including a solo show at Momenta Art Brooklyn that was selected as one of the best 12 shows of 2012 by the L magazine, and a solo show at Braverman gallery in Tel Aviv. Group shows include the Israel museum in Jerusalem, Bat Yam Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel, Leslie Heller gallery NY, Fridman gallery in NY, RCA gallery of Art London, Helen day Art center Vermont, Loop video art festival Barcelona among many others. She holds an MFA from Hunter College. She is the recipient of 2012 Artis exhibition grant and The Ostrovsky family fund for experimental film in 2012 and 2013.
