Opportunities
There are lots of different ways for getting involved with Vox Populi, from applying to join the artist collective to submitting to our open calls. Read more below!
Open Calls
Artist Membership
The most extensive way to get involved is to become a Member of the Vox Populi Collective. Our current members include visual and performing artists, writers/poets, filmmakers, and curators/community organizers who are engaged in experimental methods of making. We strive for greater inclusivity and diversity amongst our Membership. All members are both committed to their personal practices and are interested in working collaboratively to run an alternative art space.
Expectations of membership include attending up to three monthly meetings and contributing time, labor and creativity to our ongoing gallery operations, including assisting with exhibitions, performances, open-calls, gallery-sitting, fundraising events and other special projects.
Benefits of membership include solo and group exhibition opportunities; the opportunity to pitch and host special projects in our Lobby-space; free usage of our Black Box performing arts space to present/rehearse your own work or that of others; the opportunity to shape our open calls and facilitate the experiences of guest artists; non-profit fiscal-sponsorship when pursuing particular grant opportunities; ongoing engagement with a community of artists and creatives, including invitations to special events and retreats; skill-sharing and other professional development opportunities; access to office/work-space; and more!

Summer Juried Show
Every year Vox works with one or two jurors, typically artists or curators selected by the membership, to organize an exhibition selected from a nationwide open call. The show takes place during the month of July. This call is open to anyone who makes art to be shown in traditional gallery spaces, though we do consider proposals for film/video and performance/workshop-oriented projects.
Our 20th Annual Juried Show Open Call opens March 24th 2025. Learn more here

Guest Exhibitions
It is a priority for Vox Populi to bring in artists/curators from outside of Philadelphia to share their work. Once per year, we have an open call for artists/curators residing at least 50-miles outside of Philadelphia who would like a solo show in one of Vox’s gallery spaces. We typically show 3-5 artists/projects per year through this opportunity. Applications open in the fall. Collective members are given the opportunity to review and select the artists for this call.

Public Programming Partnerships
Vox regularly offers public programming partnerships to local arts presenters, curators, and organizations with whom we share mission alignment to organize music, film, and performance events. Public Programming Partnerships include evening access to our 1000sq.ft. Black Box performance space. Partnerships are determined based on individual or collective interest in the proposed event or organizations. We review partnership proposals on a rolling basis.

Internships
Interns are vital to Vox Populi’s operation and development. An internship at Vox Populi provides exposure to the world of contemporary art from an alternative, collective perspective for those considering a future in the arts as an artist, curator, or administrator. Interns work closely with the Executive Director and artist membership on all aspects of gallery management to contribute to the daily functioning of the gallery.
Internships are available for course-credit through arrangements made with your college/university.

Join Our Board
Vox Populi is always seeking passionate and engaged individuals to join our Board of Directors. As a member-run, non-profit artist space, Vox relies on the leadership and support of its Board to help sustain our mission of championing experimental work and fostering an inclusive arts community in Philadelphia. We welcome those committed to independent community endeavors and the work of early and mid-career artists, particularly individuals with experience in Community Organizing, Strategic Planning, Grant Writing, Graphic Design, Development, and Real Estate. Board members play a vital role in providing governance, contributing to fundraising efforts, and expanding our community of support. In alignment with our commitment to equity and representation, we encourage applicants to review our Values Statement before applying.
