Termite TV
Surveys
November 1 - December 1, 2013

In conjunction with CITYWIDE Philadelphia, Vox Populi gallery will exhibit SURVEYS, a video installation that chronicles the 22 year history of Termite TV Collective.

Termite TV is a video collective that has been producing experimental and activist media for over 20 years in Philadelphia and beyond! The Collective facilitates the creation of media that challenges the status quo and provides an alternative to corporate media. Termite work has been broadcast nationally on television and screened at MOMA, and at festivals and museums worldwide.

Termite TV?s mission is to work collaboratively as artists to create a space to experiment and further the language of video and television, and to create multi-faceted and multi-voiced shows which address issues of cultural, political, and aesthetic concern. In our unique “Collage show” format, we pick a certain theme and a number of video artists create short 1-5 minute pieces that relate to the chosen theme. Through this format, we can approach a particular theme with many different voices and perspectives. Termite?s work has been described as “video jazz” and “cubist television.”

Termite TV’s continued experimentations with media have led them to facilitate community/youth media projects and, most recently, to explore the field of locative, place-based media with their “Walk Philly” project. In an environment filled with corporate ads and commercial interests, Termite TV introduces works of art that have the potential to create social change, to connect people and communities.

Installation artists: Michael Kuetemeyer, Deborah Rudman, Alan Powell, Anula Shetty, Laura Deutch, John Pettit, Katya Gorker, George Kuetemeyer & Jim Brossy.
