ABOUT THE EVENT
The Philadelphia Queer Elders Project invites you to participate in the Archival Dive workshop, led by Blue Stoop affiliate and Philadelphia-based writer Berry Grass.There are 16 available seats for this event, with half of the seats reserved for “Trailblazers”, or those who were active during the years of the archival publications (1970-1995).
In this workshop you’ll be guided through a writing exercise asking you to respond creatively–construct & deconstruct, shape and reshape–writing from an archive of 1970-90s lesbian and queer zines, in order to position your voice in dialogue with the voices of your sisters and siblings writing in that era, as well as within your contemporary community. Come work on your writing with an intergenerational group of lesbian, bisexual, genderqueer, and nonbinary writers, and come connect with your community history.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Berry Grass is a nonbinary trans woman [pronouns: they/them, or she/her], and the queer & trans positionality they hold in the world deeply informs their writing. They write classic & lyric essays, as well as hybrid/mixed form pieces that make fuzzy the already androgyne line between poetry and the essay. Their work is also heavily informed by place — particularly the rural Missouri they grew up in. In their role as nonfiction editor of Sundog Lit (and, before that, Black Warrior Review), Berry looks to publish writing that challenges the normative conceptions & limitations of nonfiction as a genre, and they seek newer voices from positionalities that are made marginal by the wider literary community and by society & the state.

Please note that Vox Populi is located on the third floor of a historic warehouse building at 319 N. 11th Street and that there are five steps leading from the street-level to the first-floor landing where the passenger elevator picks-up/drops-off. The entry into/out of the elevator is 29-inches wide, so may not accommodate all wheelchairs or motorized chairs. Any individual requiring a ramp to navigate this entryway is encouraged to get in touch with Vox Populi ahead of time to coordinate ramp-access and discuss accessibility details.
