Anita Allyn, I <3 Postdemocracy, installation view[/caption] Anita Allyn’s new work, I <3 postdemocracy, investigates mediated images, signs of political agency, and signs of economic access in an attempt to understand our specific moment in cultural history without succumbing to absolute resolve of the inevitable. Allyn’s work, informed by media culture and its numerous manipulations and permutations, takes a cut-and-paste approach to investigate temporality and cultural memory and engage with the media landscape through a myriad of strategies and codifying systems. Taking advantage of the new status of images which are no longer completely private, nor solely owned by one person or one corporation, her work recognizes that any image can become part of the cultural image-bank.
Anita Allyn holds a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute and an MFA from School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland she has also studied in Aix-en-Provence, France and Brighton, England.
