Taylor Baldwin
Disinterred
December 7 - 30, 2012

Death is ordinary. Disinterred brings together a body of work that equates an act of making with an act of muted violence – whether enacted on a body, an image, or an object. Making unified wholes out of disparate fragments, the processes at work in Disinterred are equal part making and unmaking. Featuring sculpture and video works, Disinterred presents images of latent emotional content, distilling the artist’s conflicted states of dread and pleasure.

Taylor Baldwin received a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design in 2005 and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2007. He was a resident at the Fine Arts Work Center, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, the Seven Below Arts Initiative, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Baldwin has exhibited his work Conner Contemporary Gallery (Washington D.C.) , Land of Tomorrow Gallery (Louisville, KY) as well as in groups shows at the Queens Museum of Art (NY), Tucson MOCA (Tucson, AZ) and P.P.O.W. Gallery (NY). Baldwin is currently working on a show for Toomer Labzda Gallery (NY). He is currently based in Richmond, Virginia.
