Six lightning-quick whiz bangs and Ronald Reagan’s in the back of a bulletproof limousine having trouble breathing. Thank Heavens NO FACE PERFORMANCE GROUP has a handle on the situation. A surreal summit of presidential proportion, From the Swamp to the Stars is a fever-dream set against the glittering sequined decade when Reagan ruled the world. Back in the limo, Reagan’s having a vision–a dream?–of a briefcase lying open on asphalt, little plastic anti-aircraft tanks piling out toward Pennsylvania Avenue. Later it’s revealed: there’s a ricochet sliver of a .22 caliber tax hike inching its way to Reagan’s heart. Premier Gorbachev’s got a pinky finger reaching in for the bullet, trying to usurp the Chief Executive as leading man. For now Reagan doesn’t feel the pain, only the welfare of a nation and the fate of the free world.
