Please join us on Tuesday, June 14th at 6:30pm for the May-June Vox Populi exhibitions Artist Talk with Anthony Romero. Excellent art, conversation, and SNACKS!

Anthony Romero is an artist, writer, and organizer interested in documenting and supporting excluded communities. His projects and performances have been executed nationally most notably at Andrea Meislin Gallery (NY), the Judson Church (NY), and The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (IL). His writings have appeared in Poetry Quarterly, Temporary Art Review, Performa Magazine and the recently published volume on Chicago social practice history, Support Networks (University of Chicago Press). He currently teaches in the Fiber Material Studies Department at Tyler School of Art and the Social and Studio Practices Graduate Programs at Moore College of Art and Design.

Participating artists and curator:

Jesse Harrod is the Head of Fibers & Material Studies at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She holds an MFA from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Harrod has exhibited her work in solo and group shows at the American University Museum in Washington, DC, the Kohler Art Center in Wisconsin, Nurture Art in Brooklyn, and the Maryland Institute College of Art. She has been awarded residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, Haystack, and the Icelandic Textile Center. A book about Harrod’s work, featuring Jenni Sorkin, Allyson Mitchell, and JD Samson is forthcoming from Publication Studio.

Matt Kalasky is a critic, designer, and arts organizer. He is an editor at The St.Claire (www.the-st-claire.com) and 50% of I am the One Who Knocks–Philadelphia’s second best leftist lecture-onica soul-cialist cover soft-rock jam band.

Caroline Picard (curator) is an artist, writer, publisher, and curator based out of Chicago. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Artslant, ArtForum (critics picks), Flash Art International, and Paper Monument, among other publications. In 2014 she was the Curatorial Fellow at La Box, ENSA in France, and became a member of the SYNAPSE International Curators’ Network of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin in 2015. She is the Executive Director of The Green Lantern Press—a nonprofit publishing house and art producer in operation since 2005—and the Co-Director of Sector 2337, a hybrid artspace/bar/bookstore dedicated to multi-disciplinary practice. www.cocopicard.com

Julia Staples is a Philadelphia based artist. She has exhibited her work locally as well as in Iceland, Spain, NYC and LA; she has been awarded residencies at Ox-Bow, The Vermont Studio Center and Polli Talu in Estonia. In Philadelphia she works as an adjunct professor, teaching courses in photography, studio practice and photo history. Staples holds an MFA from Tyler School of Art and her BFA from Parsons School of Design.
