Join Vox Populi on Sunday, February 17 from 6-8pm for Rhythm of the Journey, a special screening of works by filmmaker Ana Vîjdea presented in conjunction with the exhibition HER.E i see lotus, curated by Luxin Zhang.
Rhythm of the Journey showcases four award winning films by filmmaker Ana Vîjdea. Including her first documentary – The Light That Memory Lends to Things.
Director’s Note: “In 2013 I spent several days in the Trans-Asia Express, traveling from Turkey to Iran. Even though I didn’t know the travelers on the train, nor did I speak their language, I decided to take some video notes of my trip. Two years later I was told that this line was closed following 2 attacks at the Turkish-Iranian border. The suspension of the journey makes it difficult, if not impossible, for some people to visit their relatives who live/work/study in Turkey or to apply for refugee resettlement. I hope it will not take long for the service to start again & in the meantime, I’d like to invite you to experience my journey on the Trans Asia Express.”

Short Synopsis
The Trans-Asia train carries fragmentary stories. A family talks about rain, wind, friendship and justice. A mathematics teacher speaks about the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution while a little girl tells her version of Hansel and Gretel.

Short Synopsis
Maria Tănase is said to mean for the Romanian culture what Édith Piaf meant for France. Fifty years after the death of the singer who was in love with Romanian folklore, eight young artists decide to pay her a tribute. They come from various parts of the world, play traditional instruments and include among them a successor of the charismatic vocalist. During their rehearsals together they improvise, discuss and try to develop their own interpretation of unique pieces.

Short Synopsis
The movie depicts a Serbian choir, The Singing Women of Pozega, a group of enthusiastic elderly women who share their daily routine with us. Through poetic pictures, seasoned with a lot of humour, we learn about their views on love, joy as well as the ephemerality of life.
The Bed is Broken

Short Synopsis
Two children explore the dilapidated entrails of a deserted factory, looking for bits of scrap metal for money. Through a patient camera, the film follows the behavior of the boys in their struggle for survival. Where does the playing end and the work begin?
Ana Vîjdea was born in Romania in 1991. She has a BA in Cinematography and Media and an MA in Interactive Multimedia from Babes-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. Between 2012 and 2016 she was awarded several scholarships which allowed her to study in Turkey, Portugal and the United States. At the moment she is pursuing a MFA in Film at Syracuse University.

While under usual circumstances we can provide a mobile-ramp for wheelchair entry into the building, our ramp does not accommodate the back stairwell leading to the freight elevator.
