Come As Your Madness: Fashion Show & Masquerade Ball
Presented by Linda Frank
Friday, September 30, 2022 | 8-11pm | At Vox
$15 in Advance via EventBrite / $20 at Door
This fashion show competition takes after the original 1950s Come as Your Madness costume party that inspired Kenneth Anger’s film The Inauguration of Pleasure Dome. There is one surviving photograph from the original gathering and it depicts Anaïs Nin and one of two husbands, Rupert Pole, in absurd regalia. Nin wears a birdcage over her head with lines from her novels woven in and out of the bars that she called the “ticker tape of the unconscious”, while Pole’s body is painted with eyes as they hated being ogled.
A party and urging to insert play into what might be a daily mental battle. Participate in this show and cheer on those brave enough to adorn and perform their way through the depths of their mania for a chance to be judged the MUSE of MADNESS. Guests are encouraged to participate in the evening’s proceedings by dressing in their personal brand of hysteria.
