Isa Leal holds a B.A. in Theatre and Dance From James Madison University, She spent 4 years in Charlottesville,Va were she worked in collaboration with Zen Monkey Project and Stephen Nachmanovich, to develop scores for music/movement improvisation in the architecture of a cooperative art gallery. In 2008 she founded This Little Bird, a dance theatre (and studio space) primarily focused on research in Contact Improvisation and Authentic Movement. In 2010 She joined the Baltimore arts scene by performing and or collaborating with BXDC, Annex Theatre, and Theresa Columbus.

She has begun Facilitating structures for somatic experimentation locally by founding Iron Rainbow Dance Theatre and Curious Palace, a space for empathetic action and by teaching Contact Improvisation weekly. She was recently chosen to be one of 17 researchers from around the world to study with Steve Paxton and Lisa Nelson for the year, and is thrilled to be working one on one with the inventors and developers of the very forms she has passionately loved for 7 years.
