Free-to-Attend

Join us on Sunday, December 12 from 5-6pm for a free-to-attend, live musical performance by Ishtar Sr., whose work is featured in our current exhibition Dark Sousveillance. The performance will be followed by a short Q+A with exhibition curator Logan Cryer.

Ishtar Sr. is the future pop moniker of Philadelphian musician/producer/visual artist Savan DePaul (they/them, she/her, he/him). In addition to her prolific nature as Savan DePaul, they transmit this specific brand of futuristic bops on one solo album, two EPs, several collaborations, and live for captive audiences. They produce musical projects that take listeners on multi-genre journeys colliding into one sensuously radical package.

The Ishtar Sr. project birthed itself in 2020 out of the need to embrace their identity and experiences in their totality. Original demos created in 2017-18 acted as their entry point into an openly queer outlook; as they evolved into fully fledged songs and they evolved personally, their vision began to sharpen. Ishtar Sr.’s sci-fi/mythological bend nestles various odes to gender-nonconformity, sexual autonomy, queer acceptance, and self reflection. These themes arrange themselves into a wholly Afrofuturist musical excursion.
