Kathleen Kim / Helga Fassonaki

Vox Populi Gallery is pleased to present an evening with Experimental Musicians and Artists, Kathleen Kim and Helga Fassonaki.

Kathleen Kim is an experimental musician and composer with background in improvisation, avant jazz and classical theories. Her solo work primarily uses extended violin and voice to create musical abstractions that provoke shared human emotions and experiences. Kim’s current collaborative projects include avant jazz chamber ensemble LA Fog and experimental duo SheKhan. She studied with Yusef Lateef and Jim Nadel, and has worked with a diverse range of influential avant jazz, improv, and sound artists. Kim’s improvisational performances were featured at the opening weeks of the 2017 Venice Biennalle and the 2012 Whitney Biennial.

Helga Fassonaki is a Los Angeles visual and sound artist. Her solo performance project, yek koo, transverses the visual and poetic, through the exploration of space, body, amplified voice, breath, horn and rhythm, revealing the harmony and tension between sound, and physical space and matter. Fassonaki received her MFA from Elam School of Fine Art at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. She has exhibited her sound and installation based work nationally and internationally.
