ABOUT THE EVENT
The PFB Open Mic Night is back! This is an opportunity for band members to share some of what we love to do outside of the realm of concert band. We’d also like to share the spotlight with our visitors and soon-to-be friends!
You got laughs? Give us some.Do you write songs or poems? Right on, right on.You got a fierce etude you’ve been wailing on, to the chilly disapproval of your jerk of a cat? Bring it. We’ll be way more supportive than your cat.Can you proficiently juggle several oddly shaped objects? Hey, you do you.
The format: when you come in, write your name(s) on a piece of paper. We’ll draw up an order that makes some kinda sense stage-transition-wise, and make sure everyone has a chance to perform at least one song/poem/sketch/whatever. If there aren’t a lot of performers, we can each do 2 or 3 (if we wish). As you probably know, PFB is a welcoming, non-judgy group of folks, so go ahead– take some creative risks, and have some fun up there!
Two microphones, amplification, and a keyboard will be provided– but bring your own stuff if you’re picky or have specific needs. Or you can just go acoustic! Basic rules apply… like, no pyrotechnics.

The Philadelphia Freedom Band seeks to be a place where anyone – LGBTQ+ and allies – can enjoy playing and performing music in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We are comprised of a wide variety of talented people, from beginners to professional musicians. We come together to improve as individuals, perform for the public and be visible as folks who support the LGBTQ+ community.

Please note that Vox Populi is located on the third floor of a historic warehouse building at 319 N. 11th Street and that there are five steps leading from the street-level to the first-floor landing where the passenger elevator picks-up/drops-off. The entry into/out of the elevator is 29-inches wide, so may not accommodate all wheelchairs or motorized chairs. Any individual requiring a ramp to navigate this entryway is encouraged to get in touch with Vox Populi ahead of time to coordinate ramp-access and discuss accessibility details.
