Screening + Workshop: Southeast Asian Equal Pay Day

Organized by the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum – Philadelphia Chapter

September 6, 2018 | 6:30-8:30pm

Join the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum – Philadelphia Chapter and Vox Populi for a short screening of video interviews with Southeast Asian women sharing their work experiences with unequal pay, followed by a workshop where we will tackle collectively dismantling the “model minority” myth. This event is free-to-attend.

Southeast Asian and Pacific Islander women have some of the highest wage gaps compared to other racial and ethnic groups—a fact that’s obscured by the model minority myth and statistics that lump all AAPI groups under one umbrella.

On average, it takes Southeast Asian women 20-21 months to earn what white men earn in 12 months. We want to raise awareness of this wage gap and uplift the experience of working Southeast Asian women as well as demand research, advocacy, and policies that acknowledge the diversity and labor of AAPI women.

Accessibility note: There is a set of stairs that lead up to the 3rd floor space. The elevator is currently undergoing work. We apologize for any inconveniences caused.

Doors open at 6pm, event will start promptly at 6:30pm.
Register on Eventbrite.
