Sleep Dealer Film and Discussion on Tech, Borders & Labor Dystopia
Wednesday, September 25th, 2019 | 6:30pm-9pm | Free-To-Attend

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Philly Tech Workers Coalition presents Sleep Dealer, a Film and Discussion on Tech, Borders and Labor Dystopia. Hosted by Medios Caminantes, Dave Onion, and Pauline Darkstar. Doors open at 6:30pm, the film will start at 7pm.

As tech firms are becoming enablers of state surveillance, detention, deportation, and incarceration, workers in the tech industry are starting to question how their labor is been exploited, while their basic rights and workplace conditions deteriorate under a fast-growing extractive economy.
Come to learn more about the ways in how The Tech Workers Coalition is organizing tech workers to improve labor conditions while creating visibility on how tech companies enable systems of oppression. We organize with existing movements towards social justice, workers’ rights, and economic inclusion. We are a coalition of workers in and around the tech industry, labor organizers, community organizers, and allies.

We choose to screen the film Sleep Dealer as a portrait of the reality that we live in. Set in a future militarized world marked by closed borders, virtual labor and a global digital network that joins minds and experiences, where three strangers risk their lives to connect with each other and break the barriers of technology.
