Virtual Vox: 4th Wall Screening of Born, Unborn, Born Again (in two parts)
Post-Screening Q&A with Artist Kyuri Jeon
*Postponed out of respect for and in solidarity with everyone protesting and mourning right now: New Date TBD

Join us here on the Vox Populi website for a screening of Born, Unborn and Born Again (in two parts) by artist Kyuri Jeon.

An untold history that resurfaces in the present, and re-orients us towards the future, Born, Unborn and Born Again explores the transnational nature of governmental control over reproductive systems, and how this oppression manifests in our bodies and perceptions of self. In the film, Kyuri uses the structure of her mother tongue, Korean, and her second language, English, to contemplate ruptures, repetition of time, and violence against women.

Sound by Michael Bailey.

Presented as part of 4th Wall film/video programming by Vox Populi’s Black Box Committee, Kyuri’s work was originally slated to be on view in our Black Box Space but is now going virtual. The work will be streamed live here on our site with a Q+A with Kyuri to follow, moderated by Vox members.

This is the first in a series of screenings curated by Vox members from submissions to our 4th Wall film/video program. Every other Wednesday evening throughout the summer we’ll be bringing you works by these artists, sometimes paired with a performance. Our next event will be Wednesday, June 17th with Leigh Davis, creator of Inquiry into the ELE (2016-2019).

Kyuri Jeon is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in Philadelphia. She is a MFA candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, 2020. Jeon’s work has been shown at the Festival Film Dokumenter (FFD) in Indonesia, the Seoul Independent Documentary Festival, and Migrant Film Festival in South Korea. Her work explores transnational systems of control, where they converge, and where they divide.
