Claudia Weber’s work focuses on the interaction between objectness and representationality, with special regard to the cultural meanings that accumulate around specific materials and forms and the shifts these undergo through time or depending upon their contexts. Her photographs documenting ephemeral assemblages aestheticize mundane materials and deconstruct traditional signifiers of value, thereby emphasizing the transformative powers of the image-making process. Weber’s new work, Something Something Panorama, combines a photographic frieze with further minimal sculptural elements, the latter responding to the visual dynamics of the room at Vox Populi while exerting control over the viewer’s ability to inhabit the space.
Claudia Weber holds an MFA and BFA from the University of Fine and Applied Arts, Offenbach, Germany. Born in Germany, she now lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown at Momenta Art, New York; Stedefreund, Berlin; Lehmann Maupin Gallery, New York; and White Columns, New York; among others.
