Vox Populi 30th Anniversary

Vox Populi will celebrate three decades of collective art practice, community, and innovation in Philadelphia with a nine-month program of conversations, performances, exhibitions, and spectacles. Members and alumni—alongside Philadelphia-area artists, curators, thinkers, and community organizers—will reflect on the organization’s history and envision its future role in our city and the larger contemporary art ecosystem. While tracing the organization’s roots, Vox will tackle the most challenging questions of the present moment and ask how to maintain a healthy and vigorous space for social interaction and artistic experimentation in Philadelphia.

Join us for conversations, performances, exhibitions, and spectacles from June 2018 to February 2019.

  • Maximum Tilt: Summer Solstice Festival
    June 21, 2018, 4–10pm (4–6pm family friendly)
Vox will celebrate its immediate community with a block party in the parking lot opposite 319 North 11th Street. Join us in the shade of the Rail Park for games, performances, and other spectacles bringing together ritual healers, spiritualists, and artistic shamans. We will serve delicious food by 13th Street Kitchen and a special Vox Beer created by Love City Brewery.
  • CityVentions
    Fall 2018
Vox will go nomadic, activating its past locations with a series of citywide interventions. Through guerilla performances, talks, and temporary installations CityVentions will commemorate the organization’s journey from Old City to North Chinatown.
  • Dialogues
    September 2018 to February 2019
Vox will reflect on the organization’s 30 years of growth with three dialogues, which position cultural producers in dialogue with Philadelphia’s rich community. Guests and Vox members will tackle urgent questions of collective practice: Art & Community, Flexibility & Change, and the Future of Art.
  • Back to the Future
    January 4–February 17, 2019
Our anniversary celebration culminates with a special exhibition that pairs Vox’s current members with alumni. The organization will go Back to the Future and reimagine collective practice today while remembering Vox’s inception in 1988 as a grassroots organization for emerging artists in Philadelphia.

All events are free and open to all—friends, families, art aficionados, activists, and patrons are all welcome.
The full schedule of events and artists is coming soon!
