About the Artists-in-Residence
Johannah Herr- Brooklyn, NYC
Johannah Herr brings a wealth of experience and a profound commitment to her craft as a sculptor, educator, and advocate. With a background rooted in global exploration and cultural exchange, Johannah’s work transcends boundaries and challenges conventional notions of contemporary art.
Holding an MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA in Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, Johannah’s artistic journey has taken her from the bustling streets of New York City to the remote landscapes of Mongolia and beyond. Her extensive exhibition history includes solo shows at prestigious venues such as The Shirley Fiterman Art Center and Geary Contemporary, alongside international exhibitions in Cologne, Germany, and Tallinn, Estonia.
In addition to her artistic practice, Johannah is deeply engaged in social impact and advocacy, co-founding Daughters Rising, an anti-human trafficking and indigenous women’s empowerment NGO based in Thailand.
We are privileged to host Johannah Herr as one of our inaugural artists-in-residence, and we eagerly anticipate the transformative impact her presence will bring to Vox Populi and the wider artistic community of Philadelphia.
Amy Yoshitsu- Berkeley, CA
Amy Yoshitsu is a sculptor, designer, and socially engaged artist whose work resonates with depth, nuance, and a profound sense of community. Hailing from her hometown of Berkeley, CA, Amy’s artistic journey has taken her across the United States and around the world, showcasing her talent and vision on both national and international stages.
Their solo exhibition, “Amy Yoshitsu: Hedges and Ledgers,” captivated audiences at Satchel Projects in Chelsea, NYC in 2023, offering a glimpse into the intricacies of their creative process and the themes that drive their work. Amy’s art has also been featured in group exhibitions at esteemed institutions such as Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, OH, and the Berkeley Art Center in California.
Amy’s commitment to collaboration and social change is evident in their role as a co-creator and work-owner of Converge Collaborative, a POGM (people of the global majority) workers co-op and artist collective. Through this platform, Amy seeks to amplify marginalized voices and foster a more inclusive and equitable artistic community.
Stay tuned as we embark on this exciting journey with Johannah Herr, Amy Yoshitsu, and the vibrant artistic community of Philadelphia.
