Vox Populi 2022 Annual Appeal

To Our Friends and Supporters

Vox Populi has always punched above its weight, and never more so than in 2022. As Philadelphia communities continued to find their footing amidst numerous political, public health, and related challenges, Vox reemerged as a foundational arts organization in our city. This year, we exhibited over 230 artists across 20 exhibitions and featured 150+ creatives in over 50 public programs spanning multiple genres including music, dance, theater, poetry, literature, film, drag, and more. These record numbers reflect our persistent commitment to creating opportunities for artists and connecting creative communities across Philadelphia.

VoxPopuli 2022 Annual AppealThrough the power of a doggedly resourceful collective membership and a dedicated network of supporters (like YOU), this past year is a shining example of all that Vox contributes to our artistic community. Your support is crucial to our continued success.

In this year of renewal, we’ve begun exciting new partnerships and initiatives–with The Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, Batikh Batikh Collective, and Space 1026, among others–while sustaining our core programs including Member Exhibitions, Juried Exhibitions, the Black Box Curatorial Fellowship, and a variety of successful open calls. On a regular basis, we offer subsidized or free use of our event space to local arts presenters, performers, and organizers, making good on our mission to ensure Vox’s resources are leveraged in support of the artists who need them most. We are proud of all that we accomplished in 2022 with your help, and in 2023 we look forward to bringing the great work we do in our galleries to an even larger audience. One of our new programs, “Teaching At The End of Times,” funded by a project grant from The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage, will promote accessible, community-based learning culminating in a multipurpose mobile classroom, off-site exhibition and website. All of this work is built and sustained by a collective of volunteer member artists, retaining the spirit and legacy of Vox for over 30 years: we are a space run by artists for artists.

Your contributions to our organization make all of this possible! Vox, like many other arts organizations during this unprecedented time, has faced an unusually competitive period of institutional fundraising. But we continue to weather the storm by maintaining a crucial network of supporters who generously share their time and resources. This is why no donation is too small: $10 or $25 given to our Annual Fund adds up and helps cover general operating costs, enabling us to pour resources into tangible efforts to support and showcase the Philadelphia arts community. From artist honorariums and programming costs, to maintenance and facilities, to our monthly First Friday events, your support is critical. I hope you’ll consider a gift to Vox Populi this year, ensuring us an even more successful 2023.

In sincere thanks and with many well wishes for the new year,

Blanche Brown (she/her), Interim Executive Director
