Gallery Talk & Closing Reception

Featuring Gina Siepel in conversation with Jennifer-Navva Milliken & Knew Member Show artists-led tour

Saturday, December 15, 2018
3:30pm – Gina Siepel in conversation with Jennifer-Navva Milliken
4:00pm – Knew Member Show gallery talk and tour

Come by Vox Populi on Saturday, December 15 from 3:30-5:30pm for gallery talks and tours exploring the exhibitions Knew Member Show and Gina Siepel: SELF-MADE. Light drinks and refreshments will be served.

Beginning in the exhibition Gina Siepel: SELF-MADE, the artist will be joined by Jennifer-Navva Milliken, Artistic Director of The Center for Art in Wood, for a conversation exploring Siepel’s multi-disciplinary and conceptual approaches to wood-working. Siepel’s work explores the potency and absurdity of an ideology that equates self-reliance and manual labor with nationalist glory, virility, and freedom.

At 4pm, we will then be joined by the seven artists featured in the exhibition Knew Member Show: Marion Horowitz, Natalie Kuenzi, Kris Rumman, Makeba Rainey, Aaron Terry, Loraine Wible and Luxin Zhang. Together, these artists will provide insight into their individual artworks, as well as surprising and serendipitous connection points between their varied and diverse practices.

Jennifer-Navva Milliken is the Artistic Director for The Center for Art in Wood. Prior to her arrival at the Center, she served as an embedded staff member in international art museums, as an independent curator, and as the founder of a cross-disciplinary art space. Her exhibitions have been presented in museums, art fairs, galleries, and unconventional spaces, and her writings have been seen in exhibition catalogues, anthologies, and publications that investigate and critique the intersecting fields of art, craft, and design. With a global perspective, honed through a life split between two continents, she is driven by the extraordinary power of the arts to challenge preconceptions and bridge divides.

ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
Please note that the main passenger elevator at the 319 N. 11th building is currently being replaced and that we lack main entryway elevator services to our venue on the third floor. While under usual circumstances we can provide a mobile-ramp for wheelchair entry into the building, our ramp does not accommodate the back stairwell leading to the freight elevator.
