Vox Populi is accepting submissions for its eighteenth annual Juried Exhibition VOX XVIII. This opportunity is particularly for artists without commercial representation who push boundaries in terms of form and content, employ alternative methodologies and want to expose their practice to new audiences. Vox Populi is interested in highlighting work in all media that is ambitious, timely and risk-taking.

Calendar:

Application Deadline: Friday, April 21st at 11:59pm

Notification Date: May 30th

Artwork Drop-off: June 19th – 23rd

Installation: June 26th – July 6th

Exhibition: July 7th – August 6th

Artwork Pick-up: August 7th – 9th

Juror: Nirvana Santos-Kuilan

Nirvana Santos-Kuilan is a Brooklyn-based educator and independent curator. She is currently the Program Manager & Curator at the NARS Foundation, an International Residency Program based in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Previously, she organized public programming at the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art. There, she co-curated the exhibition Not Me, Not That, Not Nothing Either which explored bodily fragmentation as a strategy in constructing queer selfhood. Nirvana Santos-Kuilan has held positions at the Museum of Arts and Design and the Brooklyn Museum.

Applicants may upload up to 5 works: photo, video, sound, or text.

Eligibility:

Artists are invited to submit a short statement, resume and up to five work samples (including images, video files, audio files or short texts). All submitted work must be available and ready for exhibition, if chosen. DO NOT submit the same work to more than one open call.

Entry Fee:

Please note that SlideRoom charges a $5 processing fee  

March 13th: FREE 

March 14th – March 20th: $15.00

March 21st – April 20th: $30.00

April 21st (Last Day): $40.00

Sales:

Vox takes no commissions for sales of artwork. Inquiries will be directed to contact the artist.

Liability:

Works will be insured in line with Vox Populi’s policy and conditions while at the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Additional insurance, including during transit, is the responsibility of the artist. We urge you to consider the high-traffic, DIY nature of Vox’s exhibition environment when submitting your works. Unframed artworks will not be insured. 

Shipping:

Artists are responsible for shipping artwork (or delivery and pick-up) to and from Vox Populi according to the calendar above.

Installation:

All work MUST be received ready for installation with proper hanging devices ATTACHED and thorough instructions where necessary.

Agreements:

Vox Populi reserves the right to photograph accepted works for publicity and educational purposes. Vox Populi reserves the right to reject works that differ from submitted images. Vox Populi reserves the right to reject any work that does not align to our Values. Vox Populi is not responsible for works remaining at the gallery after the pick-up date.
