Open Call for Exhibition Proposals
Applications Due: December 2nd at Midnight EST.
Fee: $35
Apply via Slideroom!
Vox Populi is seeking exhibition proposals for 2020 that feature work in experimental media and employ alternative methodologies, pushing boundaries in terms of form and content. We seek work that takes risks, is ambitious, timely, and experimental. There are no restrictions as to what media you are working with, though we do prioritize work that is not so likely to appear within commercial or mainstream institutional contexts.
Vox Populi accepts applications for solo exhibitions or curated/collective proposals to show in one of our four gallery spaces, each measuring 400-500sq.ft. Your proposal should detail the concept and contents of the exhibition. This is not a merit-based or portfolio-showcase opportunity. Instead, we want compelling exhibition concepts!
There is an application fee of $35. Applications are due 12/2. All fees support our artist-ran space!
Selected guests are expected to arrange for their installation and deinstallation, with the support of Vox Populi members. Upon acceptance, the work(s) must be ready and available to exhibit in 2020. Vox Populi exhibitions run for 6-week durations beginning in January. Guest exhibitions will commence in March/April 2020 and run through the remainder of the year.
Vox Populi’s membership will select projects. Selected proposals will receive an honorarium/budget of $500. Selected exhibitions are also supported with two public First Friday receptions, a print-brochure, gallery talk and gallery supplies!
Please note, this is an opportunity designed for artists and curators living outside of the greater Philadelphia region to connect with Philadelphia audiences and artists. We will only consider applications outside of a 50 mile radius from the city.

4th Wall: Screening Opportunities for Film/Video Artists
Submit via Email to: 4thwall@voxpopuligallery.org
Submissions should include: short description of work (single work or program of works), biography of artist(s) and organizer(s), website link and link(s) to specific video(s) for consideration – no attachments, please.
Vox Populi’s Black Box Committee is also announcing open and rolling submissions for screening opportunities through our 4th Wall program dedicated to supporting the work of emerging film/video artists!
Alongside our visual art gallery exhibitions, Vox Populi screens film/video work on-loop throughout the day within our 1000sq.ft. Black Box time-based media gallery. Supported with a high-def digital projector and surround-sound system, film/video work is projected upon a large wall (14ft. wide x 7.5ft. tall) during all open gallery hours, including opening receptions and select special events. Artists exhibiting as part of the 4th Wall program receive a $100 honorarium and are also invited to pitch additional events (additional screenings, talks, performances) to support their exhibition, as well as to participate in our closing receptions / gallery talks.
This opportunity is open to artists world-wide. You may apply with a single short or a curated-program of works. There are no restrictions as to duration of works, though the nature of this opportunity does lend itself well to short-form works or curated-programs.
To apply, simply send an email to 4thWall@voxpopuligallery.org with the following: short description of work (single work or program of works), biography of artist(s) and organizer(s), website link and link(s) to specific video(s) for consideration – no attachments, please. There is no cost and no deadline for submitting work to 4th Wall – this is a rolling open call.
Submissions will be reviewed on a quarterly-basis by Vox Populi’s Black Box Committee, with notifications sent out 2-3 months before screening dates. Vox Populi offers 4 of these screening opportunities annually. The committee may also suggest pairing your work with an additional artist and will consider submitted work for stand-alone screening programs, particularly of longer-form work. While we will do our best to respond to each and every submission, we cannot guarantee a response to all emails received.
