About the Open Call

Vox Populi is now accepting submissions for our annual exhibition and fundraiser, Cabinet Of: Vox Populi’s $99 Exhibition, from now until September 25th, 11:59pm. We are asking local Philadelphia artists (within 90 miles of the city) to donate work measuring 8” x10” to be shown and sold at Vox Populi from October 30th to December 15th. All proceeds will be donated to Vox Populi to support programming and operations.

The $99 Exhibition is an anti-auction that levels the playing field for both artists and collectors. All artworks will be the same size, and all priced at $99. Artist names will be revealed only after purchase.

In addition to having your artwork featured in the 6-week exhibition among local and national artists, all contributors will be featured on our website and social media platforms, a free drink ticket at the Cabinet Of: Vox Populi’s $99 Exhibition preview event on Oct. 30th, and be connected with local collectors.

For almost 40 years, Vox Populi has provided space and resources to hundreds of local and national artists through our exhibitions, performances, and other events. Vox is run by a collective of volunteer artist members, who work tirelessly with our Executive Director to program and operate our space. All of the money raised through this exhibition will be poured right back into tangible efforts to support and showcase the Philadelphia arts community: from artist honorariums and programming costs, to maintenance and facilities, to our monthly First Friday events.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

// This is a fundraising exhibition. You are submitting work with the understanding that you are donating it to Vox Populi. Any unsold work from the event will be available for pick up after Dec. 18th, 2023 or can be donated permanently to Vox.

// Accepted artists will be featured on our website and social media platforms. Each accepted artist will also receive a free ticket to our opening event and be connected with local collectors.

// You can submit up to two pieces of work.

// All submitted work must measure 8″ x 10″. Artworks can range widely, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, monoprints, sketches, sculpture, and conceptual pieces. We are unable to support video work in this exhibition. Please sign only the back of the piece, or leave the piece nameless. All works should be delivered to Vox Populi unframed.

// All works should be unframed (unless the frame is part of the piece).

// Artists must live within a 90 mile radius of the city of Philadelphia and be able to transport their artwork to/from the gallery on their own.

// Artists are responsible for shipping artwork (delivery and pick-up) to and from Vox Populi according to an agreed-upon calendar established on selection.

// All work MUST be received ready for installation and include thorough instructions when necessary.

// Vox Populi reserves the right to photograph accepted works for publicity and educational purposes. Vox Populi reserves the right to reject works that differ from submitted images.

// Works will be insured in line with Vox Populi’s policy and conditions while at the gallery for the duration of the exhibition. Additional insurance, including during transit, is the responsibility of the artist. We urge you to consider the high-traffic, DIY nature of Vox’s exhibition environment when submitting your works.
